Fable & Sow's The Study: An Advanced Acting Class for Adults
The Study is an intensive scene study/ technique course created by Hampton Fluker, Co-Founder & Artistic Director of Fable & Sow Theatre Farm. Hampton is a professional TV/Film/Broadway actor, Activist Farmer, Reiki Master, and Ethical Leadership Practitioner. This acting intensive draws from the teachings of theatre innovators such as Uta Hagen, Sanford Meisner, and Konstantin Stanislavski while incorporating the wisdom of Howard Thurman, a renowned African American spiritual thought leader and mentor to Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to mentoring King, Thurman guided many other civil rights activists who significantly impacted history and helped heal our world. His teachings focus on community building, unwavering care for others, and selflessness. Together with traditional studio acting techniques that open up new doors for performers, these principles form the foundation for how Fable & Sow teaches the art of acting.
Each session, The Study will explore a different themes. This session will focus on the theme of American Rage. Students will workshop scenes from contemporary plays that correlate with the session theme.
Students enrolled in the class will receive a syllabus outlining class goals, expectations, and the schedule before the first class. Scene partners will be assigned after our first class. At the end of the 10-week course, there will be an invite-only showcase to present the students’ work, which can be attended by friends, family, and theatre/TV/film industry professionals from the Hudson Valley and New York City.
